Ulun Danu is one of the famous tourist destination areas in Bali, you can visit when traveling to Bedugul or Singaraja.
The location is on the western part of Lake Beratan, the journey to Singaraja from the direction of Bedugul. Ulun Danu name literally means `the edge of Lake`. But it is not possible to claim that the site is the edge of the lake. Ulun Danu Temple complex consists of 4 units, each dedicated to Lingga Petak, and temporary residence of the Gods. This temple symbolizes of natural environment, because this location is surrounded by mountain peaks such as: in the east is Mount Mangu, in the south mountain Lotus Bang, and its west is Mount Pohan. Nowadays, the temple appears to have been renovated and there are no historical facts that can be used to trace the history of the birth of this temple. The only source to reveal the history of the temple is a relic of the Kingdom of Mengwi, the text has been translated from Bali to the Latin alphabet letters that are in the Museum of Bali - Denpasar. During the civil war between the kingdoms of Tabanan and Penebel, I Gusti Agung Putu finally managed to help the kingdom of Tabanan to win the battle. So with this victory, King Tabanan give I Gusti Agung Putu area in Marga. The young soldier continues to show his success, he was building a temple dedicated to the God who was at the peak of Mount Mangu. It added that the construction of Taman Ayun Temple began after construction is completed Ulun Danu. While the date of construction of Taman Ayun recorded with sound `Sad Bhuta Yaksa Deva` - Çaka 1556 or 1634 AD. We can use this as an estimate of the period of the construction phase and the presence of Ulun Danu.
