Komodo is the biggest and thus the strongest living lizard. The large animal has a flat, long head with a rounded snout, bowed legs, scaly skin, and a big, muscular tail.
Komodo island is National Park in Indonesia preserving the life of Komodo Dragons. The park is not only the home of the Komodo Dragons, but also known as the Komodo Monitor, or `Ora` also providing refuge for numerous other well-known terrestrial species. Komodo National Park is also acknowledged as one of the richest marine environments.There are many interesting facts about komodo dragon inhabiting the komodo island. Komodo dragon belongs to Order Squamata, Family Varanidae, Genus Varanus and species name Varanus komodoensis.
Aside komodo island there is Kanawa Island in Flores that is perfect for diving. Komodo Dragons in komodo island often attack dogs, deer, goats, pigs, and even humans as they will eat just about any meat to live. These giant lizards occasionally also attack one another.The dragon uses its forked, long tongue, with which it can both taste and smell, to identify chemicals in the air. When hunting, Komodo dragons mostly rely on patience and camouflage just by lying in wait for passing prey. The dragons may suddenly springs when a victim ambles by by using its strong legs, sharp claws, long jaws and 60 shark-like, serrated teeth to eviscerate their prey.
Animals that can flee from the jaws of a Komodo dragons will only briefly feel lucky. It is because the saliva of Komodo Dragon teams with more than 50 strains of bacteria. All of these bacteria are poisonous that within 24 hours all together make the stricken creature commonly dies of blood poisoning. When this happens, as the bacteria takes effect Dragons quietly follow an escapee for miles, using their powerful sense of smell to detect the location of the corpse. In a single feeding a Komodo dragon can eat around 80% of its body weight.
It is important to note that it is not permitted nor advisable to conduct any tours by yourself without local guides, since the Komodo Dragons are dangerous animals and the can aggressively attack people. Always stay around the ranger or local guide during your trekking or tour exploring Komodo Dragons.
